Sapahn is a women-owned brand that puts human rights first. They work with over 300 artisans in rural villages in Thailand. Artisan producers set their own wages for their creations. They're always paid in full once their goods have been created whether any are sold or not. And they are paid 50% of the total order when they begin production. Sapahn knows that traditional gender roles create challenges for women who want to earn a wage. That's why they work with lead artisans to make accommodations such as flexible work hours, at-home looms and excusable absences.

Ten Thousand Villages is a pioneer of fair trade. The original TTV effort (called Overseas Needlework and Craft) was founded by Edna Ruth Byler as a program of the Mennonite Central Committee. In the late 1940s, Byler traveled to Puerto Rico and met women who were unable to feed their children. She asked them if she could take their needlework art and textiles back to Ohio, sell them and send the profits back to them. Thus sparked the idea for a global maker-to-market movement. TTV is clear in its mission to break the cycle of generational poverty and ignite lasting, positive social change. At TTV, you can trust that every purchase directly impacts the life and community of its maker in a developing country.

The Ethical Silk Company makes responsibly harvested mulberry silk goods. Mulberry silk is extracted after the moth has left the cocoon, leaving the moth unharmed. This kind method results in a beautiful matte lustre. Everything is designed in Ireland and made in India by fair trade tailor Mehera Shaw. Block printed products are hand dyed with low impact, AZO free dyes. A water filtration system removes residue so it can be recycled and reused for fabric washing, and a rainwater catchment system reduces water use. Production is limited to short and repeat runs. Careful pattern placement minimises waste. And older stock is repurposed into smaller items. 10% of profits are donated to Jeevan Jyothi AIDS Centre in India and Focus Ireland, a charity that works to prevent people becoming, remaining or returning to homelessness.

At Warp + Weft, mindful manufacturing is in the "jeans" of this family-owned denim company. First off, they operate an eco-friendly mill in Pakistan that's powered by solar panels and uses way less water than traditional denim manufacturers. This number may shock you, but a pair of jeans made the traditional way uses 1,500 gallons of water, while a pair of Warp + Weft jeans only uses 10 gallons of water! If that weren't enough, they recycle 98% of the water they use and avoid the typical environmentally harsh bleaching process by instead using Dry Ozone technology. They source cotton that is certified by Recover recycled cotton, Better Cotton Institute and Cotton USA. They use Dystar Liquid Indigo, a pre-reduced dye that needs less water and minimizes harmful byproducts. Warp + Weft ensures ethical practices, fair wages, reasonable hours and positive working conditions. Their clothing line is size inclusive.
