Matr Boomie partners with over 1,500 artisans in India to feature fair trade collections that blend traditional artforms with timeless and modern design. They work with marginalized communities to break the gender and inequality gap by investing in vocational training, literacy programs and fair wage opportunities for women. Most products are made from compostable or recycled materials. They prefer use of natural dyes. When not possible, they ensure synthetic dyes are non-toxic and AZO-free. Wood products are made from dead trees and planned, responsible deforestation. Bone comes from naturally deceased animals. Leather is vegetable tanned. They installed a water filtration system for their block printing partner to save 1 million gallons annually and remove toxins from discharge. Air shipping is kept to a minimum in favor of freight shipping to reduce their carbon footprint. Upcycled saris are used to package products and have the added bonus of providing incomes to artisan partners who stitch the bags.

Ten Thousand Villages is a pioneer of fair trade. The original TTV effort (called Overseas Needlework and Craft) was founded by Edna Ruth Byler as a program of the Mennonite Central Committee. In the late 1940s, Byler traveled to Puerto Rico and met women who were unable to feed their children. She asked them if she could take their needlework art and textiles back to Ohio, sell them and send the profits back to them. Thus sparked the idea for a global maker-to-market movement. TTV is clear in its mission to break the cycle of generational poverty and ignite lasting, positive social change. At TTV, you can trust that every purchase directly impacts the life and community of its maker in a developing country.

Elvis & Kresse rescues raw materials, transforms them into luxury lifestyle accessories and donates 50% of profits back to charities. Their first goal was to save London's decommissioned fire-hose from landfill. This was just the beginning. Now they rescue parachute silk, printing blankets, coffee sacks, shoeboxes, tea sacks and auction banners. They also partner with the Burberry Foundation to tackle the even greater global problem of leather waste. All Elvis & Kresse products are handmade and unique.
